  • Can I use YouTube beats for the recording session
Absolutely, but be aware that to release the track commercially you will need to purchase the instrumental. Please be aware that this only applies to the Essential Package
  • Why are there recording slots?
These slots are to ensure the engineer has enough time to give your session a quick mix, and to ensure all clients have a fair amount of time.
  • What is stem Recording?
In simple forms stem recording is being able to record vocals over the stemmed-out tracks of an instrumental, resulting in a cleaner more polished yet impactful mix. The problem with recording on a WAV or MP3 is that master limiting/compression has already been applied, so it can only reach a level of loudness, clarity or impact without distorting. When recording over the individual track outs of the track we can EQ and separate the instruments around the vocals and other colliding frequencies resulting in a more polished track with improved clarity.
  • What is an In-House Master
When recording during a essential session, a limiter is applied to the final output. This ensures the mix is about as loud as commercially released records. Alongside a limiter, a 2-bus compressor plugin and a mastering plugin are engaged to give a full loud master for free. This all happens while you record, allowing the quick delivery of a finished track.
  • What is a free demo mix?
The Mixing Includes: Basic EQ. Basic Compression. Basic Auto Tuning. Basic Reverb Basic Delay This package does not include any extensive pitch correction, parallel compression or extensive instrumental or Vocal Effects.
  • What if i need to change something after I leave?
If you need to change anything, a separate session will need to be booked.
  • Why cant I get a classic or complete mix with a MP3 or WAV instrumental?
To fully maximize the dynamic capabilities of the session, it is essential to provide full multi-track or grouped stems, as this is only applicable with the proffesional mix. An MP3 offers too low a quality to fully represent the stereo field and imaging of the track. While a WAV file is typically sufficient (depending on the source), however, to take full advantage of the Solid State Logic analog summing mixer, only multi-track or group stems should be used. There are no exceptions to this rule. As a general guideline, it's advisable to provide all the beat stems or trackouts for your song. Doing so gives your audio engineer complete control over the sound of your track, allowing them to address any mixing issues related to the beat. This flexibility enables them to make your vocals blend better within the mix by carving out certain frequencies while boosting or preserving others. It's important to remember that many producers have limited audio engineering experience, which often leads to mixing issues in their beats that can be corrected by a more experienced audio engineer. The vast majority of songs released by major labels and intended for mass consumption are mixed with engineers having full control over the individual tracks. These professionally mixed songs feature well-defined kicks, snares, bass lines, and melodies, which are difficult to achieve if the artist records only over a single track of the beat. For instance, if you need to boost the kick sound in a WAV or MP3 file, your only option will be to increase the low frequencies. However, this won’t provide the same clarity and definition as simply turning up the kick track. Moreover, if you amplify the entire beat, you risk drowning out the vocals.
  • References or rough mixes?
Absolutely. In addition to as much written information as possible you’re welcome to provide a rough mix as well as a commercially released reference song, as these will be useful as guides for the engineer.
  • How Should I Deliver My Files?
We accept WAV or AIFF files at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96kHz; 16/24 or 32 bit. Please supply us with mono or stereo files, clearly named and without audio clipping. Stereo files will be counted as 2 tracks of audio, for example ‘Strings L & R’ will be counted as 2 tracks. You will need to provide multi-tracks that are consolidated or bounced from the start point of your song (bar 1 beat 1 or start time code). All files must be of the same duration, sample rate and bit depth. Sorry, but we cannot accept DAW sessions (i.e Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase etc). We ask that you also double check your audio files before uploading. Reload them into a new Session/Project, checking that they are the correct placement and length, Also checking that any crossfades have been included when consolidating or Bouncing in Place.
  • How long for a song?
10 mins is the maximum. If more time is required you will be charged. The amount is up to the the discretion of the engineer.
  • Why do i need a streaming version?
If you are planning to release your music on iTunes, Spotify or anything you need a streaming master. These streaming sites use normalisation on your final master to make the level of all songs uploaded to their site the same level, and if it is not correctly calibrated it will affect the quality of you master when going trough these platforms.
  • Bad recording or distortion in the mix?
Artifacts like clipping and distortion cannot be removed in the mix process, if there is too much distortion or clipping in the mix it cannot be worked on and would require a re recording.
  • Tape Simulator?
The Handsome Audio Zulu is an innovative passive analog tape simulator and bus processor designed to replicate the classic warmth and character of analog tape recording systems. With its carefully crafted design, the Zulu introduces a new era for studio and live sound engineers who seek the unique sonic qualities that analog tape provides. It enriches digital tracks with the organic qualities that only analog can offer, adding weight, depth, and a soulful color to the sound that is often lacking in the digital realm. Featuring a versatile interface, the Zulu allows engineers to explore a wide range of sound textures. Its enhanced controls provide an extensive array of options, from gentle saturation and compression to harmonic colouring and detailed transient response.
  • I want to add reverb and effects prior to the mix. Is that ok?
Ideally not. We ask that you please supply multi-track files dry, without reverb or effects. But, if you feel that a specific effect, processing or creative element (filter sweeps, delays etc.) is an integral part of the sound then it is fine. Please note that any excessive limiting, compression or EQ that is applied will severely restrict our engineers ability to mix the track.
  • Tape Machine Export?
You probably would ask why would one even do this? The answer is simple, yet complicated. It sounds better?? The most commonly cited characteristic of analog recording is its "warmth”. Tape warmth adds a level of colour to the sound, primarily softening the attacks of musical notes, and thickening up the low frequency range. Recording at slightly hot levels to analog tape can also produce a nice distortion that works well with certain types of music. Regardless of how you choose to implement it, the sound of analog tape can be a great addition to your digital mix. exporting your mix via a tape machine 2 adds some cohesive “glue” on the mix bus. Or, you may find the tape is just the thing to add a bit of understated warmth and low-end punch to your mix. Bandwidth is the ability of a recorded signal to be reproduced at varying degrees of resolution. Think of it like enlarging a low-resolution image versus a high-resolution image. After a certain point, enlarging a lower-resolution image will become pixelated and difficult to see, where the hi-resolution image will resize clearly. Like images, audio signals can have a limited bandwidth if recorded digitally. Once a digital recording is made, the bandwidth is set in place. An analog recording is considered unlimited. Therefore, it can move to a higher and higher resolution without losing its original quality. The combination of transformer balanced inputs and outputs and clean IC-based circuitry offers a perfect combination of transparency and subtle "oomph" that you'll instantly recognise once you hear it - it's just "that sound"!
  • What format should I send my stems or track outs in
WAV or AIFF please. Uncompressed stereo with a bit depth of at least 16bit, ideally 24bit and a sampling frequency of 44.1kHz up to 96kHz. No pre-processing using limiting or normalising – we need as much headroom as possible to work with to make sure that your tracks sound as good as possible when we mix it. FX, compression for colour or specific EQ is allowed. however please be aware the more processing you do the less we do which will definitely affect the quality and clarity of your mix.
  • Are MP3 Allowed for Mixing?
NO, Mp3 are not allowed when mixing either the Classic Package or the Complete Package.
  • Neve Import?
The difference between mixing in the box and using the Neve summing mixer is astonishing due to the impact it has on the sound. Every mix requires its own unique treatment. The continuously variable Texture control, featuring Silk Red and Silk Blue modes, allows you to fully manage the harmonic density and tonality of your mix. Unlike traditional EQ, the controls on the Neve 5059 saturate the output transformers, adding rich, musical harmonics to the source material. Above all, the most important feature of the 5059 is its legendary sound!
  • Can i have the mix without the master?
All packages come with the separate mixes along with the master file. You can ask specifically for the master to not be included, however the price of the package ordered will be the same.
  • How much headroom do I need to leave?
Plenty of headroom please. Artifacts like clipping and distortion cannot be removed in the mix process, so allow plenty of headroom when printing your multi-tracks to avoid any.
  • How will you deliver my track?
Via google drive or we transfer. All files will be saved on google drive for up to 3 months.
  • Mixing Deadlines
Single - 1 Month EP - 2 Months Album - 3 months This applies to all services.
  • Why add the master in the package?
In most cases, clients normally don’t understand the mastering process so they believe the mix and master to be the same, or in some cases think a bad mix can be fixed in the master. And in some cases the artist will spend ££££ on a mix only to find out they need to spend another £££ on a master. We offer both services in one package to avoid all the confusion and time consumption that is associated with music.
  • When will you start on my mix?
Once the correct forms have been filled out you will be sent an invoice. You will then need to pay the NON REFUNDABLE deposit for the project to start. Once the NON REFUNDABLE deposit has been paid, you will need to send the requested files via we transfer or uploaded to the google drive provided. When all files and deposits have been made the engineer will instruct you on the date on when the service will start. Once everything has been agreed, the project will start and be completed within the deadlines provided. After everything is completed, you will be required to pay the full amount to receive all files, unless payment is asked for before hand which is up to the sole discretion of the engineer.
  • Whats the point of different packages
After years of mixing, specific clients have specific needs, for instance someone who has a limited budget or wants something out there quick will require less work than a veteran artist that needs attention and care to their mix. With that in mind several packages have been created to suit your needs.

  • What is a Stem
Stems or "Group Stems"are stereo recordings sourced from mixes of multiple individual tracks. For example, a drum stem will typically be a stereo audio file that sounds like all of the drum tracks mixed together. In most cases, additional processing such as equalisation, compression, and time-based effects is included to ensure that the sound achieved by the mixing engineer is committed.
  • What’s a Master Engineer?
A mastering engineer is a person skilled in the practice of taking audio that has been previously mixed in either the analog or digital domain as mono, stereo, or multichannel formats and preparing it for use in distribution.
  • What is a Multi Track Track Out
"Track-outs" of "Multi-tracks" are the recorded separate, individual elements of an audio production. For Example, Kick, Snare, Main Vocals etc etc. Some may be mono, while others are stereo. They may have been recorded from microphones or direct inputs, programmed in a sequencer, or arranged in a sampler. In many cases, time-based effects such as delay and reverb are excluded to allow flexibility for the mixing engineer.
  • What is a Mixing Engineer ?
The mixing engineer is responsible for combining all of the different sonic elements of a recorded piece of music into a final version and balancing the distinct parts to achieve a desired effect.
  • Bit Rate & Bit Depth?
BIT RATE - refers to the amount of kilobytes (KB) per second that audio outputs. Generally, a higher bit rate indicates better audio quality. For example, MP3 files typically have a bit rate of 320 KB/s while WAV have a minimum bit rate of 1411 KB/s. BIT DEPTH - indicates the range of measurements in audio quality. A higher bit depth results in better quality for stored or reproduced sound. MP3 files usually have a bit depth of 16 bits while WAV can have a maximum of 32 bits.
  • Types of Mastering?
These are the various types of mastering processes available, each with its unique approach and benefits: In House - Digital Master Available on the Essential Recording Package This mastering method relies solely on digital plugins and software to process the track. While digital mastering can effectively enhance loudness and thickness, it often reaches a limit where the mix can begin to exhibit unwanted artifacts, such as distortion or a crushed signal. As a result, digital masters might lack the warmth, power, and punch that some listeners crave, though they generally maintain a high level of cleanness and clarity in the sound. This option is included at no extra cost with either the Essential or Premium recording package, making it a convenient choice for those looking for a straightforward digital solution. AI Analogue Master Available on the Premium Recording Package Available on the Deluxe Session Package This innovative approach uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze the mix and determine the best processing techniques for enhancing sound quality and increasing playback volume. The AI effectively simulates the work of a human mastering engineer by making intelligent adjustments tailored to the specific characteristics of the track. After processing, the mix is translated to analogue equipment, combining the efficiency of AI with the depth, complexity, and warmth traditionally associated with analogue mastering. This option is offered for free with the Classic Mix package, and it is also available as an optional upgrade for clients choosing the Premium recording package. Analogue Master Available on the Classic Mixing Package Available on the Premier Session Package In this time honoured mastering method, real analogue equipment—such as valve processors, transistors, and tape machines—is utilised to master the track. This hands-on approach avoids any digital plugins, allowing for a more organic sound. Analogue masters are known for their fuller, richer sound quality, often perceived as having increased warmth, power, and punch. The process introduces a specific kind of clarity that many musicians and producers seek, making it a popular choice among those looking for a vintage or classic sound. This option is available as an additional service to clients who select a Classic Mix Session and is provided free with the Complete Mix package. Stem Master Available on the Complete Mixing Package Stem mastering is a more detailed and precise method that requires the submission of a mix that has been broken down into multiple sub-mixes, or "stems." These stems are typically categorized by instruments or vocal tracks, allowing the mastering engineer to focus on individual elements of the mix. By layering the stems on top of each other, the engineer can selectively address any problematic areas, improving the overall balance and quality of the final track. This option is particularly beneficial for complex mixes that require fine-tuning and is available with the Complete Mix Session, providing a tailored, detailed approach to mastering.
  • MP3 WAV Track Outs (Multi Track) Stems Or Multitrack - What’s The Difference?
Separation of Stems in the Music Industry In the music industry, it is essential to distinguish between two primary types of stems: 1. Individual Stems (Track Outs) 2. Group Stems Individual Stems (Track Outs) Individual stems, referred to as multi-tracks or track outs, consist of single instrument or vocal tracks. Examples include distinct audio files for individual elements such as the kick drum, snare drum, guitar, piano, lead vocals, backing vocals, and ad-libs. When purchasing beats online, these components are commonly classified as individual stems. Group Stems In contrast, group stems comprise a collection of sounds from a specific category, consolidated into a single audio file. This can encompass all drum sounds, all guitar tracks, or all recorded vocals for a particular piece (also known as an a cappella track). Group stems are frequently utilized by mastering engineers, video editors, and producers within film production. To enhance the overall quality of a musical composition, it is advisable to select individual tracks rather than group stems. Producers typically refer to “tracked out stems” as individual stems, thereby alleviating any potential confusion regarding terminology. There exists a multitude of reasons why professionals engage with stems, all of which ultimately contribute to several key advantages: - The ability to control the overall mix - The capability to manage the song arrangement - The adjustment of volume levels for each individual track - The manipulation of specific frequencies within individual tracks - And additional factors Producers and audio engineers necessitate control over the mix to produce a final product that meets industry quality standards. This is the primary function of tracked-out stems. The Superiority of Stems Over MP3 or WAV Formats MP3 files are not recognized as an industry standard and fail to deliver sound quality comparable to that of commercial radio. This deficiency can be attributed to the inferior quality associated with MP3 files. Technical Considerations MP3 The MP3 format is a compressed audio format, which employs a compression algorithm to reduce file size (making it approximately one-tenth the size of a WAV file) while striving to maintain reasonable sound quality. However, this compression process often results in the loss of significant musical information, leading to diminished low-end frequencies (bass) and a reduction in higher frequencies (definition). Consequently, the MP3 format is primarily suitable for streaming or storing music but is rarely utilized in professional audio production. Typically, the creation of an MP3 file occurs as the final step before submitting a master recording to streaming or digital sales platforms. The quality of an MP3 is contingent upon its bit rate, with the highest standard being 320 kbps (kilobits per second). WAV In contrast, WAV is a lossless waveform audio format, representing the most accurate digital reproduction of an original audio waveform without altering its sonic properties. As an uncompressed format, WAV files allow immediate access to the stored data without the necessity of decoding, which can lead to loss and errors when importing files into a digital audio workstation (DAW). This characteristic establishes WAV as the industry standard for professional audio applications. Users can determine the audio file’s resolution by selecting the sample rate (measured in Hz) and bit depth (measured in bits) prior to exporting. Typically, individuals utilize DAWs to work on tracks that are exported at either 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz and 24 bits to guarantee high audio quality. Stereo Beat (2-Track Instrumental) A stereo file of a beat consists of a 2-channel (left and right) MP3 or WAV file that contains the complete instrumental composition. When downloaded after purchasing a license, this file may be unmastered, while a download offered for free may be in a mastered state.
  • What is a Mix Revision?
A mix revision can be anything from changing a re-verb setting or reconstructing a drum line (within reason.) Each additional change that is applied and bounced or exported out counts as a revision.
  • What is a Master Revision
A master revision is the change to the final master file. This means the master will be changed, if anything specific needs to be done, its like turn down the ad libs etc then this will need to addressed in the mix.
